Andalucia Trip – By June Smith
In September 2018, 16 people from Glenrothes Hillwalkers Club went on the trip to Andalucia and happily all 16 came back, everything intact. The company we used was Simon Harding at http://www.ibernature.es/about-us. We struck lucky with his support. His sound organisation meant that we had no hiccups at all. All the buses arrived on time, the hotels were comfortable and the food was good and plentiful.
All the special dietary needs were catered for. We had full board at each hotel. The only extra cost we had was the alcohol and I advise you ask Sandra about the effects of the humungous gins!!!!!
Simon ensured that there were opportunities for different lengths and difficulties of walk each day. He didn’t just guide us but shared his knowledge of the region and its flora. The walks allowed us to explore a variety of countryside and vistas. On one of them we were even lucky enough to forage all kinds of fruit, some we had not seen before.
As part of the cost, Simon organised a two centred week. At our first stop in Frigiliana, the weather was very hot which made walking a bit more challenging for us who are used to the cold but we managed anyway. The second stop up at Capileria (a village that sits higher than Ben Nevis) was much cooler and so walking was more comfortable. On our last day, 10 of us chose to climb the highest mountain in mainland Spain, Mulhacen (3479m). The views made the effort worthwhile.
Throughout the week Simon went the extra mile to ensure we all got the most out of our holiday, including mending a pair of boots that broke and booking train tickets for later in the week!!! As a bit of relaxation before Mulhacen, he squeezed in a guided trip to the Alhambra and Granada which was for us all and eventful experience. The Alhambra is stunning. On our last evening there was an impromptu exchange of dance culture with a version of the Gay Gordons from Glenrothes party and a flamenco demonstration from Simon.
7 of us extended our stay to enjoy a bit of leisure in Cordoba and or Malaga.
It was a great success and hopefully the club will offer another walking holiday next year. June is willing to organise but acknowledges someone else might want to do that.
Anne Wharton Compleates

In September 2018 Anne Wharton Compleated her Munros. Her last Munro was Am Basteir on Skye.
The photos below show Anne on the summit of Am Basteir and there is also a photo of Anne being presented with a Quiche. Anne was meant to be presented with a Quaich, but it didn’t arrive in time for the October club meeting!
Brian Robertson Compleates
