Traffic Disruption in Perthshire

If you're travelling through Perthshire over the next few months, be prepared for delays as 2 convoys, each of 3 abnormal loads, head for the new Griffin wind farm Mondays to Fridays and also Saturday mornings.

They are carrying turbine blades to the site which is on the A826 about 15 miles south of Aberfeldy. The vehicles leave Rosyth at 9am and 12.30pm with a police escort. Their route is up the M90 to Perth, the A9 to Dunkeld and then along the A822 and up the A826 to the site. This will go on till the end of October. If you get behind them on single carrageway, it's impossible to pass. You can find out more information including the delivery schedule at the Griffin project web site. Some good news is that they're having a break over the Easter/May Day holiday period.

Thanks to Steve Thurgood for alerting us to this.

Maps Offer

If you're in the market for maps, you might want to have a look at the Dash4it web site where OS Landranger maps are available at £4.89 (with free postage). They also have, amongst other things, OS Explorer and Harveys maps.

999 Emergency Text Service

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland is urging everyone who walks, climbs and skis in the Scottish mountains to register with the 999 emergency text service. This service has been set up to allow people to text 999 when mobile phone reception is intermittent.

You will only be able to use this service if you have registered with emergency SMS first. The MCofS is suggesting that we register now rather than wait for an emergency. To register, text 'Register' to 999. You will get a reply and will then need to follow the instructions you are sent.

The text system is meant to be used only when voice calls cannot be made and the system does not guarantee that texts will be delivered, so users should wait until they receive a reply from the emergency services before assuming help has been summoned. Further details, including guidelines on how to register, can be found at www.emergencysms.org.uk
